John Johnston was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 2005 with a Bachelors Degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry and biology. After multiple years working in the field of science and starting several successful businesses, John decided to attend law school at the Charleston School of Law in South Carolina where he earned his Juris Doctor in 2011. John’s main focus during law school was business law, concentrating in intellectual property and corporate structure.

John and Merritt joined together to form Johnston & Farmer, LLC. At Johnston and Farmer, John specializes in corporate litigation, business formation and structure, corporate finance, government contracting and intellectual property.

John was the class president of the Intellectual Property Society, and consecutive dean list recipient, while at the Charleston School of Law. He was also the CALI award winner for Antitrust & Antitrust litigation as well as Advanced Criminal Law. He is a life member of the American Chemical Society and is an Eagle Scout.

Prior to forming Johnston & Farmer, LLC, John was a founding partner for JWP Energy, LLC, a waste-to-energy transformation company, where he currently serves as CEO and General Counsel. He also serves as General Counsel for the Menehune Foundation, a non-profit Native Hawaiian Organization in Honolulu dedicated to providing financial literacy and environmental awareness to Native Hawaiian communities.
